Sometimes, the best learning happens when we’re all together. Mixed age classes allow families with siblings, neighbor groups of varying age levels, and anyone who’s drawn to the time slot to attend. Educators accommodate powerful and enjoyable music and movement activities for all stages of development, so that everyone is comfortable, engaged, and learning!
Sarah Day Healy believes in teaching kids to love music—a simple but powerful philosophy that has shaped her approach to music education. From early exposure to musical theatre, school choirs, and corporate church worship, Sarah’s own love for music blossomed, eventually guiding her into a career dedicated to inspiring young minds. While studying for her bachelor’s degree in music education, she began teaching private voice lessons with Allegro, and after graduation, she became a music teacher for pre-K through 5th grade students in Powhatan and York County. Throughout her career, Sarah has taught nearly 1,500 students, ages 3 to 12, fostering both individual growth and a sense of community through music. Her work extends beyond the classroom, as she also established a private studio for beginner piano students and young vocalists. Additionally, Sarah has recently earned her Kindermusik accreditation, extending her knowledge and expertise of the youngest musicians! Sarah’s vast experience in both private and group settings has equipped her with a dynamic and energetic teaching style, one that is uniquely attuned to the needs of young learners. In 2023, after three years of dedication at Seaford Elementary, Sarah was honored with the Teacher of the Year award—an acknowledgment of her exceptional commitment to her students and their musical development. Shortly before welcoming her daughter Renna into the world, Sarah and her family made the move to Richmond, where she continued her private teaching and musically directed a production with CharacterWorks. Now, as she returns to Allegro, Sarah is eager to bring fresh ideas to engage the youngest musicians and their families, enriching their musical journeys with creativity, enthusiasm, and a sense of joy. Her deep passion for music and her innovative teaching methods are sure to inspire the next generation of artists.
